Omo, Aberdeen is not playing this winter! As a Nigerian keeping tabs on our boys across the globe, it’s beautiful to see the Granite City turning into a “Little Lagos” of sorts. Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel has clearly been doing his homework, bringing in two distinct profiles to revitalize the Dons’ season.
First, we have Toyosi Olusanya returning to familiar territory. The 28-year-old forward, joining on loan from MLS side Houston Dynamo, knows the Scottish Premiership like the back of his hand after his successful stint with St Mirren. Toyosi brings that raw pace and directness that can give any defender in this league a headache. He’s hungry to prove that his American adventure was just a detour, and Pittodrie is the perfect stage for his redemption arc.
Then, the big one: Afeez Aremu. This is a massive “kudos” to the recruitment team. Getting a defensive general of his caliber from Germany’s 2. Bundesliga for around €150,000 is a steal. At 26, Afeez is entering his prime. He’s a “working horse” in the middle; strong, aggressive, and tactically disciplined. His contract until 2028 shows Aberdeen sees him as a long-term pillar.
With Olusanya stretching defenses and Aremu “locking shop” in the midfield, the Dons have significantly upgraded their spine. If these two hit the ground running, we might just see Aberdeen clinching a European spot by May. It’s a great time to be a Nigerian Dons fan!
