LONDON — Nigerians living abroad can now buy homes in Nigeria through a safe, government-backed scheme launched on August 7, 2026, in London, United Kingdom.

The Diaspora National Housing Fund (NHF) Mortgage Loan, a flagship collaboration between the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), eliminates long-standing barriers that have hindered diaspora real estate investments back home.

Under the newly launched framework, eligible Nigerians residing overseas can access up to ₦50,000,000 in mortgage financing at a competitive interest rate of 9% per annum, with flexible repayment terms extending up to 15 years.

Key Details & How It Works

  • Loan Cap: Up to ₦50,000,000 (determined by income and credit evaluation).

  • Funding Structure: 30% equity down payment by the applicant, with the remaining 70% funded via the NHF loan.

  • Contribution Tiers: Participants must contribute to the NHF for 12 months before full loan approval.

    • Earning under $3,000/month: $150 monthly contribution

    • Earning $3,000/month or more: $200 monthly contribution

The entire process—from initial NHF registration to housing selection and mortgage processing through accredited Primary Mortgage Banks—can be completed fully online, removing the requirement to physically travel to Nigeria.

Properties under the program will feature mixed-dwelling developments across key urban centers, including Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Kano. The scheme also allows contributions to be fully refunded with interest upon full loan repayment or retirement.

The initiative represents a major push by the Nigerian government to boost foreign direct investment, stabilize foreign exchange, and guarantee reliable property rights for millions of citizens living across the global diaspora.

Eligible applicants can begin their registration directly on the official portal at nidcom.gov.ng.
